Easy Shrimp and Sausage Foil Packet Dinner

Season the ingredients according to your taste. Salt and black pepper provide a simple foundation, while paprika or Cajun seasoning can add additional warmth and spice.

If you enjoy heat, a small amount of crushed red pepper or cayenne can give the packets a pleasant kick.

You can also add a little olive oil or another suitable cooking oil before sealing the packets. This helps coat the vegetables and contributes additional moisture and flavor.

6. Seal the Packets

Bring the long sides of the foil together over the ingredients and fold them tightly to create a sealed packet. Fold the shorter sides inward as well.

Leave enough room inside each packet for steam to circulate. Do not compress the ingredients too tightly against the foil.

A secure seal is important because the trapped steam helps cook the shrimp and vegetables while keeping the meal moist.

7. Cook the Packets

Place the sealed packets on a baking sheet if using an oven, or carefully place them on the preheated grill.

Cook until the shrimp are opaque and fully cooked, the sausage is heated through, and the vegetables have reached your preferred level of tenderness.

Shrimp cooks relatively quickly, so avoid leaving the packets on the heat longer than necessary. Overcooked shrimp can become rubbery rather than tender.

For food safety, shrimp should be cooked until the flesh is pearly and opaque. If you are unsure, use a food thermometer and follow appropriate seafood food-safety guidance.

8. Carefully Open the Packets

When the packets are finished, remove them from the heat carefully. Be cautious when opening them because hot steam can escape suddenly.

Use tongs or heat-resistant gloves to handle the packets and open them away from your face.

9. Serve Immediately

Once the packets are opened, you can serve the shrimp, sausage, and vegetables directly from the foil or transfer everything to plates.

The juices collected inside the packet can be spooned over the shrimp and vegetables for extra flavor.
